The American Lutheran Congregation in Oslo is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this fall, and began the official celebrations Friday evening with a concert featuring the Oslo Chamber Orchestra (Oslo Kammerorkester) and guest singers from the Chorus of the Norwegian Opera .
On the program were works by Norwegian composer Ole Bull and Giacomo Puccini, plus a new Cantata composed by Átila Mellilo, who is also a member of the congregation, especially for the celebration.
Mellilo also conducted the orchestra and choir for the cantata, and he and the musicians, choir and soloists received a standing ovation from a packed audience at the end of the performance.
Celebrations continue on Sunday, October 11th, at 11am (during the Sunday Morning Festival Service), with the Oslo Chamber Orchestra and the guest singers performing another new composition written by Mellilo for the Anniversary.
The work is a new setting of the Liturgy for the Divine Service named "Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving".
