Opera cruise beneath the polar sky

Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten arranges its fifth annual opera cruise in 2012, and will offer both ballet and opera performances for passengers traveling up the Norwegian coast.

"This journey has become a very popular way to travel for music lovers," Hurtigruten states.

In cooperation with the Norwegian Opera, the cruise line has put together a program that features opera singers with experience both from Norway and on the international stage.

The repertoire is still in the works, but includes a mix of well-known operas, operettes and musicals. Some of the singers include sopranos Anne Wiik Larsen and Gunda Marie Bruce, tenors Helge Rønning and David Fielder.

There will also be concerts en route on the mainland - at the Ishavskatedral  in Tromsø, and at the very top of the North Cape (Nordkapp) plateau. The cruise runs from October 29 until November 4, and more information can be found on Hurtigruten's own website: http://www.hurtigruten.no
