Skagerak International School, located in Sandefjord, provides you with a highly regarded quality education thought in English.
Established in 1991, Skagerak International School, High School in Sandefjord celebrated its 20th anniversary in August 2011. The school has always focused on educating the whole person; treating students as individuals and helping them reach their academic potential and also encouraging their wider personal development. ![]()
Skagerak offers a three year high school programme. Our first year, which we call ‘Pre DP’, meets the requirements of the Norwegian VG1 Studiespesialisering course and is taught in English. We are an International Baccalaureate authorised school and offer the IB Diploma Programme in years two and three, providing our students with a qualification which is recognised as excellent preparation for university level studies by the best universities in Norway and around the world.
The IB Diploma Programme, while providing a rigorous academic training, also emphasises the personal development of students outside of the classroom through ‘experiential learning’ – learning by doing – requiring students to explore and develop their creative capacities, be physically active and to be service minded in the local and wider community.
Many of our students wish to do something different and find attending a small, friendly high school like Skagerak more appealing. We are proud to say we “know” all our students. Our international teachers are caring and supportive and we offer “Open Door Learning” after school to give students extra tuition from subject teachers. Almost all our students will go on into higher education.

Being a student at Skagerak has its advantages: you will be fluent in two languages, experience other countries and cultures through participating in one of the many trips the school offers which can be subject related or connected with humanitarian projects. Representatives from some of the best universities in the world visit us every year and we provide excellent university guidance.
A large number of Skagerak students live away from home to attend the school and we can help you find accommodation in Sandefjord should this apply to you. Curious? 10th graders are welcome to visit us and spend a day with our students. If you do send us an application form, student and parent will be invited to a formal information meeting before any final decisions are made. We are recognised by Statens Lånekasse for Utdanning. This school is all about you the student. Be a part of the Skagerak experience!
