Welcome to NHH

NHH is Norway’s first and most prestigious centre for research and education within the fields of economics and business administration.

Norway’s oldest and leading business school

NHH (Norges Handelshøyskole – the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration) was founded in 1936 and, together with its affiliated institutes SNF and AFF, constitutes the largest concentrated centre for research and study in the fields of economics and business administration in Norway.Avsnitt 1

The school is the Norwegian member of the prestigious Community of European Management Schools (CEMS), and the school strives to be amongst the foremost in Europe in its fields. EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation and membership of the global PIM (Partnership in International Management) network add to the international credibility of NHH.

The influential German business weekly Wirtschafts Woche put NHH in the top spot in its review of European universities and business schools stating, “NHH is one of Europe’s best places to study, offering first class study programmes in beautiful surroundings.”

Researching at the frontiers of knowledge

NHH is a research-led institution that is recognised internationally for its ground-breaking work in a number of different fields. The vast majority of the academic staff hold PhDs and the faculty includes the Nobel Prize winner Professor Finn E. Kydland. The high standing of the school is enhanced by the on-going development of interdisciplinary research centres and collaboration with both national and international academic, business, governmental and non-governmental partners. NHH has a strongly held belief that excellent in research is the prerequisite for excellence in teaching, and this sentiment is echoed by faculty members.

First class study programmes

In line with the Bologna Process, the full-time programmes at NHH follow the structure of a three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree, a two-year Master of Science (MSc) and a three-year PhD programme. The MSc programme was rated in the top 20 by the Financial Times in 2005, while the same survey placed the school as number one for Economics and number four for Finance in Europe.

The school sets out to recruit only the best students and currently has over 2,700 students. NHH hosts many international students, both on full programmes and as exchange students. With over 20 years of experience, the MSc in International Business is an English language programme specifically aimed to equip students with the right mix of analytical and practical skills for an international career.

NHH has been awarding doctoral degrees since 1957. The PhD programme is fully taught in English and the school now has a PhD student body of close to 100 young researchers, working across a range of academic disciplines.

In Norway the best is free, but only the best get in

In Norway the best education is free, but only the best get in. As a public university, NHH does not charge any application, admission or tuition fees to international students for its study programmes. A result of this distinctly Norwegian funding arrangement is that demand for places is high. High admission standards ensure that, although the best is free in Norway, only the best students get in.
