Weekend: Letters to the Editor

A couple of weeks ago in this coloumn I wrote asking our readers to include in their letters suggestions for improvements and to list those things that they find missing or would like more of. Not too many have responded so far, and we will just have to give you more time! A couple of weeks ago in this coloumn I wrote asking our readers to include in their letters suggestions for improvements and to list those things that they find missing or would like more of. Not too many have responded, and we could of course take it as a sign that you are all very satisfied with Norway Post the way it is. But that would be presumtuous. We'll just give you more time! However, I did get a letter requesting information which many of you might be interested in, and I'm sure Kay from USA does not mind sharing with others. Here is his letter: Kjære du, I enjoy your paper very much. I think the only thing I would enjoy more is to be able to sit by Fisk Torget i Bergen og lese det der. (But that's another story). I read your paper every morning; even before I read our local paper ! I follow the news of Norway as best I can. I love to hear about all facets of Norwegian life. I do have a bit of trouble however, trying to follow Norwegian politics. I seem to forget the names of the various political parties, and their platforms. (In America we only have the two to be concerned about, and now the fledgling reform party makes it 2 and one-half). I wonder if you could do a brief tutorial; outlining the names of the parties and their platforms, or general beliefs. This would be much appreciated. Ha det bra, Hilsen, Kay In my reply i suggested to Kay that he visit the following web-site, which would give the information he needed. If you are interested in Norwegian politics I suggest you do too: http://odin.dep.no/ud/nornytt/uda-126.html Gwendolyn wrote us asking if we could find out for her the exact date when the city of Molde was set on fire by the Germans in 1940. Even though I myself lived outside Molde at that time, and remember the black smoke drifting out the Romsdal Fjord, I was only five, and did not remeber the exact date, of course. But our stringer in Molde found out for us: The first bombs fell on April 15th. However, the worst days were April 27, 28 and 29, she was told. That's soon 60 years ago!! Lori wrote us saying she had visited the Norwegian pavillion at the EPCOT Center at Disney World. There she had purchased some Norwegian perfume which she is not able to find at Oklahoma stores. Could we help? We're on the right track, and hope to find out if there is an outlet near you. Lori! With that, have a good weekend! Show others the Doorway to Norway! Rolleiv Solholm Chief Editor
