Welcome to Hamar! From 16 to 19 June 2011 the Kirsten Flagstad Festival offers you beautiful music and exciting artists in wonderful surroundings. Both professional musicians and young, promising performers will be taking part in this year’s Festival.
Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen is Norway’s top National Drama. Edward Grieg’s music helps elevate the text dimensions to the optimal Norwegian experience. This is how Norwegians see Peer Gynt. The idea behind the performance at Lake Gålå in Gudbrandsdalen, was to produce the playon site -, in other words where most of the story took place. Few dramas use the nature and forces of nature as their own as Ibsen’s Peer Gynt.
The Gathering (TG), Norway’s largest computer party, has been held in Vikingskipet, Hamar every easter since 1996. TG has around 5000 participants and attracts growing interest, both nationally and internationally. TG is organized by the non-profit organization KANDU (Kreativ Aktiv Norsk DataUngdom/Creative Active Norwegian Computer Youth).
THE ECCENTRIC AND ACCLAIMEDAmerican band, Of Montreal will play at Nattjazz on Monday May 30. The band is one of the founding bands of the Elephant 6 collective, but is now best known for its unique mix of indie pop, glam rock, funk and r & b.

Kristin Lavransdatter is a trilogy set in the Middle Ages written by the Norwegian author Sigrid Undset, who lived between 1882 and 1949. The trilogy was published in the years 1920 – 1922 and Sigrid Undset was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for the books in 1928.The protagonist Kristin Lavransdatter grows up on the farm Jørundgard in the district of Sel in Gudbrandsdalen. She was born around the year 1300 and dies during the Black Death in 1349.
