The oldest festival in Stavanger celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2008. MaiJazz is Stavanger's oldest festival and has been running for 20 years. Since the first festival in 1989 MaiJazz has developed to be one of Norway's leading jazz festivals presenting international jazz stars and the best in national and local jazz every year. Approximately 150 volunteers are gathered to arrange about 40 concerts on 20  stages in and around Stavanger, that can accommodate from 80 to 1800 people.
