The Øya festival takes place in Oslo

If sleeping in tents and going a week without a shower is not your cup of tea, then you may want to check out the boutique music festival "Øya" in downtown Oslo this week.

Øya (the Island) is an annual music festival held in the Medieval Park in downtown Oslo, right by the Oslo Fjord. This year, several big international as well as Norwegian artists are on the program, including Björk, The Stone Roses, The Black Keys, Karpe Diem, Ane Brun, Feist, and Florence + The Machine.

The festival is unique not only because of its impressive music program, but also because of its location and urban feel.

The concert area is only a short walk from the city center, and artists perform in between ruins of the Maria Church, dating back to the 11th century. The Medieval Park is also the place where the capital of Norway was founded a thousand years ago.

This year's festival runs from August 7-11. Tomorrow's audience will hear concerts by the Black Keys, Chromatics, Mathia Stubø Band and Refused, among others.
