Norway and Russia to discuss nuclear security

 

altThe Norwegian-Russian Commission for Nuclear Security  will meet in Kirkenes, Norway on Tuesday to discuss nuclear security in the North, the Department of Foreign Affairs has announced.

 

During the discussions, the main theeme will be the joint efforts to remove and secure the nuclear waste in the disused Russian naval base in Andrejev Bay on the Kola Peninsula.

Other important points on the agenda will be monitoring of the environment and the risk of pollution from dumped radioactive waste in the Kara Sea, as well as warning of nucleaar incidents and the security at the Kola and Leningrad nuclear power plants.
