In its proposal for the 2012 National Budget, to be presented next week, the Government will increase the VAT on all foodstuffs from 14 to 15 per cent, according to public broadcaster NRK.
The coalition government last increased the value added tax to 14 per cent on food in 2007, when it resulted in strong protests from the consumers.
This time, critics, including nutritional experts and the political opposition, suggest that the VAT should only be increased on unhealthy foods, with too much sugar and/or fat.
