In the proposed 2011 Fiscal Budget, allocations to education and knowledge increase with the total of NOK 4.6 billion, including expanding and improving the quality of day care institutions.

Clear priorities in the Ministry of Education and Research’s 2011 budget include expanding and improving the quality of day care institutions and measures to increase the proportion of young people completing upper secondary education and training. A total of NOK 1 billion has been allocated to these areas. 2,200 additional places at universities and university colleges will also be created. Basic research will receive a NOK 60 million boost.
In 2011 the Government will allocate NOK 27.1 billion (USD 4.6 billion) to the fight against poverty. Increased efforts to promote clean energy and support adaptation to climate change will put a stronger focus on climate change.
“We are one of the few countries in the world that fulfil the UN’s target for budget allocations to the fight against poverty,” said Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim.
In 2011, the development budget will amount to 1.02% of Norway’s gross national income (GNI).
