Spending more for Christmas

The Virke federation of enterprises in Norway predicts that Norwegians will spend NOK 48.8 billion on Christmas shopping in December this year, a 3 per cent increase over December last year.

This means that every Norwegian will spend NOK 9900 in December. More than 40 per cent of this will be spent on food, drink and other daily consumer goods.

- Even though consumers have been careful so far this year, we always spend a little extra at Christmas, says Virke CEO Vibeke Madsen.

She says many have put money aside, and therefore have more to spend on food and gifts for Christmas.
