Ski jumping Gold for Bardal and Norway

bardalvmNorway's Anders Bardal won the Gold medal in the Normal Hill ski jumpiong event at the Nordic World Ski Championship at Val di Fiemme on Saturday.

In the lead after first round, Anders Bardal managed the enormous pressure and delivered a 2'nd jump which earned him victory and Norway's first ski jumping World Championship Gold in the Normal Hill for 47 years, after Bjorn Wirkola won in Oslo World Championships in 1966.

Bardal chose not to follow the competitors standings before he made his jump. "I didn't know anything when i landed," Bardal declared after his jump. It was completely quiet in the stands, until the final points were declared, - and his victory was a fact.

To tremendous cheers from hundreds of supporters, the boards showed that his last jump was enough to beat the favorite, Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer, who won silver and Peter Prevc of Slovenia who captured the bronze medal.

- So far, I'm just terribly proud of what has happened. It has not sunk in yet. I'm just very, very happy, says the fresh world champion. NRK's jump commentator Espen Bredsen was impressed how Bardal managed to keep is nerves under control.
