Oslo Airport Aims to Become Scandinavia’s Largest

Passenger traffic at Oslo Airport Gardermoen is on the rise: More than 1,6 million more passengers travelled to and from the airport this year compared with the same period in 2010.

So far this year, the airport has had a growth of 11.4 percent.

"We are very satisfied with the passenger flow we are seeing today," says Jo Kobro, Information Manager at Oslo Airport. Only in September, passenger numbers arriving and leaving from Gardermoen increased by 137,000.

"Or goal is to become Scandinavia’s largest airport," Kobro tells NRK. "Based on our recent growth it’s looking good, but it might take a while."

The most traffic comes from domestic flights, but more people are also travelling abroad on popular routes, such as SAS’s non-stop flight to New York. Low prices and Norwegian’s love for travel is a good combination, he explains.

So far, the airport hasn’t noticed the effects of the economic downturn in Europe, but we are prepared, Kobro says.
