The Munch Museum

When Munch died in January 1944, it transpired that he had unconditionally bequeathed all his remaining works to the City of Oslo. Edvard Munch's art is the most significant Norwegian contribution to the history of art, and he is the only Norwegian artist who has exercised a decisive influence on European art trends, above all as a pioneer of Expressionism in Germany and the Nordic countries.

Welcome to the Rolf Nesch Museum

An artist's treasure in the heart of Hallingdal.

An inventive, creative European artist.

Rolf Nesch (1893 - 1975) was a respected artist when he fled from Nazi Germany to Norway in 1933. His creative contributions to the graphic art and his development of the material picture gave him international reputation. Rolf Nesch moved to Ål in 1951. This is why a separate museum exhibiting his art was established right here in Ål in 1993, the year he would have turned 100.
