Costly refurbishing of the National Theatre

A complete refurbishing and upgrading of the National Theatre building in Oslo looks to become much more expensive and take longer time than earlier estimated, Aftenposten reports.

The theatre may have to be completely closed for a two-year period.

The cost of renovating the 111-year old building in the centre of the capital has been estimated by Statsbygg to cost "far above NOK 100 million", the newspaper writes, adding that the actual cost may be closer to the double of that estimate.

It has already been discovered that parts of the decorative plasterwork on the facade of the building has started to fall down, and the sidewalk on that side of the building has been closed.
