Despite the planned separation between the state and the State Church, the Minister of Culture promises that the church will still be funded by the government and municipalities.
Minister of Culture Torhild Widvey will present a hearing document today that outlines how the separation between the state and the Norwegian State Church will be finalized.
A clear separation will be beneficial to all parties - the Church, the state and the Norwegian society, Widvey explains to the newspaper Vårt Land.
Even though the formal responsibility for the Church's economy and staff will belong to a Church separate from the state, the Government still wishes to legalize its financial responsibility.
The Ministry suggests that the government will finance the Church by giving grants to the Church's Council, which has up until now not been able to influence the church's economic control.
Widvey emphasizes that public financing from the government will also include financial support to other religious denominations and faith communities.
