 The value of Norwegian arms export has never been as high as last year. This is a problem for the peace-maker nation Norway, according to Changemaker, the youth branch of Norwegian Church Aid.
- The export of arms weakens Norway's role as a peace-making nation, says Changemaker leader Ida Thomassen. State Secretary Gry Larsen of the Department of Foreign Affairs, on the other hand says Norway has no reason to be ashamed of its defense industry, and points out that Norway has strict rules governing arms exports. In 2001, the value of Norwegian arms export was NOK 646 million. Last year the arms export was valued at NOK 3.1 billion. Most of the exported Norwegian arms are bought by NATO partner United States.
