Norwegian troops in Afghan engagement Print E-mail
Image Norwegian troops in Afghanistan have been engaged in fighting several times during Christmas, but none of them have been injured. Norwegian helicopters evacuated three injured Afghan soldiers to the Norwegian field hospital in Maimana. 

In the first incident, three days before Christmas, one of the Norwegian Military Observer Teams (MOT) was attacked with grenades and small arms by insurgents in the west of Faryab, and had to call for NATO air support.

The day after, in a similar incident, one of the TOM patrol vehicles was damaged during the attack. Two other patrols from the Maimana camp also came under fire the same day.

On Christmas Eve, an Afghan patrol made up of army and police units, as well as Norwegian training officers, came under fire west of Maimana. Several Afghan soldiers were injured, and one was evacutated to the Norwegian field hospital at Maimana.

On Christmas Day, Afghan and Norwegian troops, supported by helicopters and drones went to the aid of an Afghan border post which had been attacked by insurgents, bringing food supplies and ammunition. Two injured members of the Afghan border police were evacuated to the field hospital.
