Christmas is still the time of year with the highest risk of house fires here in Norway, but the number of house fires at Christmas has been reduced by 50 per cent, compared with 2002.
The number of house fires in the last week of the year have been halved, from 102 in 2002 to 49 last year, NRK reports. Thor Suhrke of the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) says the public have learnt from repeated information drives around Christmas over the past six years.
