GDF SUEZ Norge, operator of production licence 469, has completed the drilling of wildcat well 6407/12-2. The well, which was dry, is located about 10 km south of the Draugen field and 130 km north of Kristiansund.
The well encountered reservoir rocks of minor thickness and poorer quality than expected, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reports. This is the first exploration well in production licence 469, which was awarded in APA 2007. The well was drilled to a total depth of 1481 m below the sea surface, and was terminated in rocks from the Late Cretaceous Age. The water depth is 308 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned. Well 6407/12-2 was drilled by the Aker Barents drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 460 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 25/1-11, which is operated by Det norske oljeselskap ASA.
