The problems facing the Norwegian Defence have become so great that Norway's commitments to NATO are threatened, according to a report to Parliament from the National Audit Office.
Aftenposten quotes from the report: - Among other things the report points out that several defence units will not be able to be combat ready within the time limits given. - It says the number of combat ready pilots has been reduced. - 40 per cent of staff positions in the Norwegian Air Force joint command headquarter remain vacant. - The budget for exercises has been reduced by 65 per cent. The report also points out that the Medical Corps has a severe shortage of ambulance vessels as well as medical staff. (NRK/Aftenposten) Rolleiv Solholm |
