Andreas Thorkildsen won the javelin event at the Norwegian Athletics Championships in Lillehammer Sunday, with a throw measuring 88.55m, setting a new championship record.  

The win also earned him the men's King's Cup. Speed walker Kjersti Tysse Plätzer captured the King's Cup for women.

Thorkildsen five throws all measured well over 80 metres. He says this is very satisfactory only two weeks ahead of the World Championships in Berlin.
