The Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs has contacted the Government of the Republic of Congo to discuss the situation for two Norwegians who have been jailed, accused of murdering their driver.
A representative from the Norwegian embassy is on his way to to Kisangani, where the two are held. According to a Norwegian diplomat, one of the men has been exposed to what he calls "unacceptable treatment". The two have been accused of killing their driver/translator when driving through the jungle. The two Norwegians claim they were attacked by a group of guerillas or robbers, and that these shot the driver, while they themselves escaped by running into the jungle in different directions. One of them was on the run alone for about a week, before he gave himself up to the local police. According to Dagbladet, the two were in the process of setting up a private security company in Uganda, and were on their way to a training camp in the Congo when they were attacked.
