About 200 Tamils protesting yesterday led to a traffic halt in the centre of Oslo. The police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.

The protest calmed down at about 22.30. A protest permit application had not been submitted, which made the protest illegal.

There were not reports of violence or nuisance in connection with the protest, which blocked the tram tracks in Stortingsgata.
