Norway and Guyana to cooperate on reducing greenhouse gases |

 Norway and the South American state of Guyana have agreed to establish a partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions created by deforestation, as part of a climate change agreement.
This was announced after talks beween Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Guyana’s President Bharrat Jagdeo in Oslo on Tuesday. The two leaders met to discuss climate change and forest issues. The goal is to establish mechanisms on deforestation and forest degradation to be included in a post-2012 climate change agreement. “The developing and the developed countries must work together to address global warming. I commend the Government of Norway for showing leadership through its climate and forest initiative”, stated President Jagdeo. Prime Minister Stoltenberg said that President Jagdeo’s personal engagement and vision for ways to preserve Guyana’s tropical forests, is impressive. - He is a frontrunner among the developing countries and plays an important role in the ongoing UNFCCC negotiations”, the Norwegian Prime Minister said.
