Figures released today show that fewer young people in Norway are committing suicide.

Thirty percent fewer are taking their own lives today than 10 years ago. The figures show that preventative initiatives have worked, says Professor Lars Mehlum at Oslo University.
Most suicides, however, are still registered in rural regions.
In the Nordic countries, the suicide rate is lowest in Iceland and Norway. In Finland the rate is 2,5-3 times higher than in Norway. Denmark has also a relatively high rate, although it is on its way down.
