The environmental organization Youth for Nature has reacted strongly to the Government's plans for a reduction of the electricity tax and its proposal to build gas fired power plants in Norway.
Instead, the organization calls for more environment-friendly measures.During an election campaign speech on Thursday, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said the cost of electricty in Norway had now become too expensive, partly due to an expected power shortage.
He said the ruling Labour Party would therefore propose a cut in el-tax and introduce plans for building gas fired power plants to meet the need for more energy.
-The Government's policy is a failure. The consumption of electricity in Norway is too high, and the reduction of the el-tax will certainly not help, says Elin Boasson of Youth for Nature.
In her opinion, Norwegians ought to become better at saving on electricity, and she would also like to see the introduction of environmental-friendly wind power and bio-energy.
