The cruise on M/S Nordstjernen visits several of the fjords on the western and northern sides of Svalbard and, ice conditions permitting, They cross latitude 80° North, duly celebrated with a simple ceremony for the passengers on board.The visits to Longyearbyen and New Aalesund give the participants a clear impression of what life is like in these communities, with particular emphasis on coal mining which is the basis of existence for these ettlements.
The cruise ends with an enjoyable cultural evening in the Russian settlement of Barentsburg. After spending two hours in Longyearbyen, they set sail again for Bjørnøya (Bjornoya), North Cape and Tromsø (Tromso).
