The Norwegian Central Bank has decided to keep the key deposit rate unchanged, at the present record low of 1.75 per cent.

However, in its announcement on Wednesday the bank indicated that a rice would come later this year, and gradually be brought in line with a more normal level.- The unusual low interest rate and the development within production and inflation would seem to indicate that a further cut in interest is now less likely, the bank writes.

Most analysts had predicted that the rate would remain unchanged, but had said there was a 10 per cent chance that it would be increased.

Chief Economist Jan Andreassen of Terra Securities says he believes the Central Bank now will keep the interest rates unchanged unchanged till June, but adds that in his opinion the rate will remain low for several years.
