The corporate assembly, with the chairman's casting vote on Tuesday evening voted to ratify the board decision to close down the Union Paper mill in Skien.

This means that 380 jobs will be lost, and the workers will now take the case to court. The owner, Norske Skog, closes the plant in order to cut costs, but the unions say they cannot accept that a plant that is making money should be closed down.

The workers are now threatening to take the matter to court, since Norske Skog has refused to sell the mill to the employees, who had wanted to take over.

Norske Skog has also been harshly criticized for refusing to sell the Skien mill to investors who offered to buy the plant and continue production.

The corporate assembly's decision to close down the mill came after long and tough negotiations which lasted late into the evening.

In the end it was the chairman's casting vote which became decisive.
