Some of the largest international distributors are picking up Norwegian online games. The Game Developers Conference will be the greatest international exhbition of Norwegian-produced games. Norwegian gaming developers will be in good company at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco in March. Established game distributors such as Sony, Microsoft, Activision, Blizzard, Namco Bandai and Square Enix are currently looking for the next big hit among young gaming developers.
Four Norwegian games have already been listed as games of interest by the organizers of the conference. This attention is key, as hundreds of games can be distributed per week on certain platforms.
Small developers have normally been dependent on their games spreading by word of mouth, a method that has been quick to destroy many dreams and projects. That has made several developers go back to a more traditional business model and sign with an external distributor. This offers more financial security, as well as access to a system that handles the marketing.
However, there is fierce competition for the distributors' attention. Several Norwegian developers are now doing their last preparations before they depart for the conference, along with hundreds of other developers.
In addition to the recommendations the Norwegians have been given by the organizers, they are also supported by the local Norwegian consulate. The Norwegian developers will use the space to exhibit their games, as well as a place to meet with international investors prior to the conference.
