Norwegian labour unions have called a nationwide two-hour political strike today, Wednesday, protesting against the Government's proposed changes in the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The unions claim the proposed changes will lead to increased use of temporary employment, longer shifts, more compulsory overtime and more frequent work on weekends.
The strike, between 14:00 and 16:00 hours local time will affect kindergarten and schools, public transport, including air travel and train services. However, planes in the air will be allowed to land at Norwegian airports.
Hospitals will also be affected, but emergency clinics will be open.
And for the first time ever: Pastors of the Norwegian Lutheran Church (Den norske Kirke) will also participate in a strike.
