Norwegian criticism of Russian fisheries authorities

The Norwegian Fisheries Directorate has strongly criticized the the way Russian authorities are dealing with overfishing, saying cooperation is difficult to achieve. This comes at the start of the annual negotiations of the joint Norwegian-Russian fisheries commission.

Directorate section head Einar Ellingsen says the Russian authorities lack both ability and the willingness to deal with the problem of overfishing.

The Directorate concludes that at times it is very difficult ot achieve cooperation with the Russians on how to deal with overfishing.
