Tour de Ski: Prologue win for Northug
Northug beat Swiss rival Dario Cologna by seven tenths, and gained an additional five bonus seconds. France's Maurice Manificat came third. Bjørgen was beaten to the finishing line by Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk. The nine-stage, 11-day Tour de Ski event finishes on January 8 in Val di Fiemme with the overall results based on the aggregate time for all the events, as well as bonus seconds awarded on sprint and mass start stages. Norway's World Cup leader Petter Northug won the opening 3.75km prologue at the Tour de Ski in Oberhof on Thursday. Compatriot and World Cup leader Marit Bjørgen came second in the women's 3km prologue.
Saturday's "Skarverennet", the annual cross country ski-touring race with 12,220 participants in the Hallingskarvet mountains is often said to mark the end of the skiing season in Norway.
