Cross country: Bjørgen win in WC opener

Norway's cross country queen, Marit Bjørgen, led from start to finish, to win the cross country 10km World Cup opener at Lillehammer on Saturday. Petter Northug came 2nd in the men's 15km race.

This was Bjørgen's 47th World Cup victory of her career, historic, since it puts her ahead of legendary Bjørn Dæhlie, who won 46 WC races for Norway in his time.

Bjørgen won, ahead of Sweden's Charlotte Kalla. Norway's Vibeke Skofterud came third and compatriots Tora Berger and Kristin Størmer Steira placed 4th and 5th respectively.

Petter Northug was satisfied with his first WC race of the season, after placing 2nd in the men's 15km freestyle race, behind Sweden's Johan Olsson.

On the last stretch, Northug outsprinted Italian Roland Clara, who came third.
