Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik paid a visit to the Synagogue and the Jewish day care centre in Oslo on Monday. The purpose was to express support to Norwegian Jews during a time of conflict in the Middle East.Norwegian Jews have experienced harassment and threats because of the Israeli government's policy in the Middle East. -All Jews cannot be held responsible for what the present Israeli government does from day to day, Bondevik says. -Ethnic discrimnation is unacceptable for whatever reason, the Prime Minister underlined, when he was received at the Synagogue by Rolf Kirschener, head of the Mosaic Congregation in Oslo. -We have seen ugly results of harassment of Jewish groups in other parts of the world, in the wake of what is happening in the Middle East. But also in Norway we have seen tendencies to agitation an attacks directed at Jews. -The Government wishes to emphasize that this kind of ethnic discrimnination is totally unacceptable, regardless of the reason given. The Jews in Norway are not responsible for what the Israeli government is doing, the Norwegian Prime Minister said. (NRK) Rolleiv Solholm
